LZF Lighting: Handcrafted Wood Veneer Lamps from Spain

Founded in 1994 by Sandro Tothill and artist Mariví Calvo, LZF Lighting originally known as Luzifer quickly made its mark in the design world. What began with Calvo’s hand-painted wooden tube lamps soon gained momentum after a breakthrough order of 700 units at the Madrid Gift Fair. Since then, LZF’s handcrafted wood veneer lamps have illuminated both private homes and iconic landmarks, including the Sony Centre in Berlin and the Metropol in Barcelona.

At the heart of LZF’s success is their dedication to craftsmanship and sustainability, using high-quality tulipwood veneers sourced from FSC-certified forests in the Eastern USA. Every lamp is designed in-house and hand-assembled at their factory, a converted winery in Chiva, near Valencia. This fusion of artistry and innovation has established LZF as a leader in contemporary lighting.

LZF is also celebrated for its creative storytelling and innovation. Their award-winning High Fidelity campaign (2013) drew inspiration from 1950s jazz and album art, pairing each lamp design with music composed by Rithma. In 2015, designs like the Chou by Yonoh studio creativo and the Asterisco by Cuatro Cuatros earned prestigious iF Product Design Awards. Today, with advancements like remote-control dimming which they call democratising domotics, LZF continues to redefine how lighting enhances both spaces and experiences.
