But it may be equally important in your landscaping and exterior design to illuminate certain features or add a bit of drama to the space. Pendants or outdoor lamps can be used for ambient lighting while entertaining, while wall lights and downlights can be more functional.

Outdoor lighting should be at least IP-44 rated or higher. IP-44 is splash proof and can be used for general garden, path lighting, or alfresco lighting, however, IP-64 and IP-65 rated lights will be protected from dust and water resistant, which is better for full weather exposure.
