Bobo Piccoli (1927–1981) was an Italian artist and designer known for his sculptural approach to lighting, blending fine art with functional design. Trained as a painter and influenced by Milan’s post-war art scene, he brought an expressive, abstract style to his work. In collaboration with the iconic Italian lighting company FontanaArte—founded in 1932 by Gio Ponti and Pietro Chiesa and renowned for merging art, craftsmanship, and modern production—Piccoli created some of his most notable pieces. Among them are the Re floor lamp and Regina table lamp, both designed in 1968. The Re, meaning "king," features a totemic, geometric structure that serves as both a light source and a sculptural statement, while the Regina ("queen") offers a similarly bold, compact design for tabletop use. Both lamps exemplify Piccoli’s talent for turning lighting into symbolic, architectural forms, reinforcing FontanaArte’s legacy of integrating artistry with everyday objects.
