Project: Cowper Residence Kitchen

Project: Cowper Residence Kitchen

Located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, the Cowper Residence by Studio Noakes reimagines a Victorian home for modern family life. Featured in House & Garden (March 2026 and May 2026), the project brings clarity and cohesion to what was once a fragmented kitchen, pantry and laundry.

The redesigned kitchen now sits as a unified, highly functional space - defined by seamless storage, refined circulation and a strong sense of visual calm.

As Genine Noakes explains: “Maintaining a sense of visual calm was important. As passionate art collectors, the owners wanted to minimise visual clutter, ensuring the kitchen responded well to the living zones where art collections are on display.”

A Sculptural Layer of Light

Studio Noakes selected the Coral Trio Off Centered Pendant Light to introduce a subtle yet defined focal point within the kitchen. Featuring three handblown glass shades suspended from a linear rod, the design is intentionally off-centred - creating a sculptural composition that brings movement while maintaining the overall restraint of the space.

Its soft, diffused light enhances the surrounding material palette, supporting both task lighting over the island and a warm ambient glow.

Lighting for the Kitchen

“Maintaining a sense of visual calm was important. As passionate art collectors, the owners wanted to minimise visual clutter, ensuring the kitchen responded well to the living zones where art collections are on display.”

In a well-resolved kitchen, lighting is considered as carefully as joinery or materiality. It defines how the space is used but just as importantly, how it feels.

A layered approach, combining task, ambient and decorative lighting, allows the kitchen to shift effortlessly from functional workspace to a more relaxed, atmospheric setting. Soft, considered illumination enhances natural materials, supports daily routines and brings a sense of balance to the space.

Coral Trio Off-Centered Pendant Light

More than just a light source, the Coral Trio Off Centered Pendant Light is a sculptural statement designed to draw the eye upward and define the heart of the room.

  • Each of the three shades is crafted from handblown glass, ensuring a soft, organic quality of light that only comes from traditional glasswork.
  • The fixed off-centre design creates a sense of movement and visual interest, making it the perfect centrepiece for a dining table or kitchen island.
  • With rod finishes in Black, Brass or White, the piece can be customised to either blend seamlessly with a minimalist interior or stand out as a bold, metallic accent.
  • Available in three sizes, the Trio allows you to choose the perfect volume for your ceiling height, ensuring the off-centred silhouette feels intentional and proportional to the space.
