Biography of Luca Nichetto
Luca Nichetto was born in Venice in 1976, a city renowned for its rich artistic heritage and the famed Murano glassmaking industry. Growing up in this environment, where several family members were involved in glassmaking, Luca’s artistic talents began to blossom early. His formative years were marked by a unique blend of creativity and entrepreneurship, spending school holidays selling his designs to local factories.
Luca’s educational journey took him through the prestigious Istituto Statale d’Arte in Venice and later to the Università Iuav di Venezia (IUAV), where he graduated with a degree in industrial design in 1998. His career began to take shape in 1999 when he joined Salviati, a renowned Murano glassmaker, and subsequently became a product designer and consultant for Foscarini, a leading lighting company.
In 2006, Luca took a significant leap by establishing his own design practice, Nichetto Studio, in Venice. This move allowed him to explore his creative vision freely. Five years later, he relocated to Stockholm, Sweden, where he opened a second studio, merging his Italian flair with the modern and sustainable ethos of Scandinavian design.
Over the years, Nichetto has established himself as a multidisciplinary designer, serving as an art director for numerous international design brands. His contributions have been recognised with a plethora of international awards, and his work has been featured in prestigious exhibitions worldwide, including retrospectives in major cities like London, New York, and Beijing. Additionally, he has lectured at several universities, including IUAV, and has been involved as a juror in various design competitions.
