Project: Mosman Ensuite

We are delighted to share the Mosman Ensuite project by Howard Lane Designs, a recent bathroom transformation that has just been awarded the KBDi People’s Choice Award for Bathroom Design of the Year 2025, voted for by over 20,000 people across Australia. This remarkable renovation highlights the power of thoughtful design, bold materials, and layered lighting to elevate a compact space into something truly spectacular.

At the heart of this transformation, our Orb Sur Wall Light plays a pivotal role, bringing soft, diffused illumination that enhances both mood and functionality.

MOSMAN ENSUITE

The brief & the vision

The owner’s request was clear: transform a tired, clinical ensuite into a space that felt sexy, bold, feminine, and sophisticated. The original bathroom, with its stark white wall tiles, dated chrome tap ware, and dark grey flooring, lacked personality and warmth. Working in the luxury beauty and homewares industry, the owner sought an ensuite that reflected the same sense of refinement she experiences daily, with elegant storage solutions to ensure beauty products were both accessible and discreetly organised.

Howard Lane Designs responded with a vision that sought to maximise every millimetre of the compact layout, balancing luxury with functionality. Their goal was to create a bathroom that felt indulgent and personal, yet practical for everyday use.

  • Material palette: A striking Rosso Trentino marble was introduced in a full-length ledge that doubles as storage, offering both elegance and drama.
  • Tile selection: Zellige-style tiles softly reflect light, amplifying brightness and adding depth in a space with limited natural light.
  • Lighting: Layered illumination, including our Orb Sur Wall Light, enriched textures and finishes to create an atmosphere that is warm, inviting, and luxurious.

The result is a sanctuary that fulfils the owner’s original brief while exceeding expectations, transforming a once uninspired bathroom into an award-winning space.

Designer Insights on Decorative Lighting

We asked Tamiko from Howard Lane Designs for their thoughts on lighting in bathroom design:

“Decorative lighting in a bathroom is as much about atmosphere as it is about function. I recommend thinking in layers – combining task lighting for grooming with softer illumination that adds warmth and ambience. Reflect on how finishes and textures will interact with light; tiles with a glazed surface or stone with natural variation can beautifully enhance its effect. In smaller bathrooms especially, lighting becomes a powerful tool to make the space feel brighter, more spacious, and welcoming.

One feature I often include is an LED strip beneath the vanity, connected to a sensor. This provides subtle guidance at night without relying on overhead lights, while also introducing a calm, elegant glow. Finally, don’t hesitate to treat lighting as a design statement – the right fixture can infuse personality and a sense of luxury into even the most compact room.”

The Final Thought

The Mosman Ensuite project is a true celebration of how lighting, materials, and thoughtful design can completely redefine a space. The addition of the Orb Sur Wall Light brings not only functionality but also an emotional layer of ambience, helping turn a small ensuite into a luxurious retreat.

We are honoured to see our product featured in such an outstanding project and congratulate Howard Lane Designs and BT Bespoke on their well-deserved KBDi People’s Choice Award win.
